who is it for?

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched therapy designed to help us resolve unprocessed traumatic events. Your trained therapist will walk you through the process of changing your emotions, sensations, thoughts and behaviours in response to a distressing event, often with no requirement for you to describe the event in detail.

EMDR therapy involves briefly focusing on a distressing event while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (originally limited to eye movements, though other forms of bilateral stimulation are now available including audio, tapping, and the use of therapeutic tools such as theratappers). The result of this process is a reduction in the emotional and physiological response to the distressing memory, which allows the nervous system to begin healing.

EMDR therapy is an effective treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain and depression. Research has also shown success in resolving OCD and grief-related issues.
