Meet Harveen

Hello!
I am a Provisionally Registered Psychologist, and I’m passionate about supporting individuals toward healing and growth! My journey into psychology wasn’t a straight line—believe it or not,
I was almost a dentist! I even volunteered in dental offices, took the exams, and pushed through all the steps… only to realize it wasn’t my path. During that same time, I was also taking psychology courses through my Bachelor of Science degree at Grant MacEwan University, and that is when everything clicked.

My psychology courses gave me answers to many of the struggles I faced growing up and opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of myself. Everything I experienced growing up as a kid into adulthood such as racism, skewed family dynamics, school transitions, grief and loss of my grandparents seemed to come to light. That is when I knew that psychology was my calling. I
wanted to be the support system that I never got growing up.

Because of these reasons, I like to primarily work with children as young as five years old to late teens. I will also work with young adults and adults. I believe that with the right tools and
support, every person has the power to heal, grow, and thrive.

My Approach
Now, with a master’s in counselling psychology from City University of Seattle, I am here to walk alongside you on your own journey. In my practice, I use a variety of techniques to make sure you get the support that works best for YOU! I use a person-centered approach to make sure you always feel heard and understood, while also bringing in the power of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help identify those tricky thought patterns, feelings and behaviours. I also use Solution-Focused approaches to focus on your strengths, Play and Art Therapy to help younger clients express themselves, or Mindfulness to help you stay grounded and present. I've got a toolkit full of strategies! There really is no one-size-fits-all here. Together, we can find
what works best for you!

A Few Fun Facts About Me:

  • I’m fluent in English, Punjabi, and Hindi, so I can provide services in multiple languages.

  • I have over a year of experience as a Therapy Support Navigator, giving me access to a wide network of resources across Alberta.

  • I’ve developed over 30 educational presentations on mental health topics like ADHD, self-esteem, social skills, grief and loss segments, depression, anxiety, parenting struggles and more! I truly enjoy facilitating group sessions and working with clients who are navigating a wide range of issues.

  • I worked as an educational assistant in the schools after completing my counselling degree, to learn more about how children and teens interact with one another and their day-to-day struggles.

  • I worked with high-risk youth in group homes while doing my undergrad and learned that psychologists have more of a role than what others may think!

  • I was crowned Miss Alberta 2021 in Edmonton’s pageant. This platform allowed me to advocate for mental health awareness to hundreds of people across Canada. My message was that it does not matter how you look and what you wear; true beauty comes from within. It's about embracing your authenticity, building self-confidence, and focusing on your strengths. People are valuable and deserving of care and compassion, regardless of societal standards or expectations.

The greatest piece of advice I've received:

“You can do it. I know. I believe in you!” My Husband!

Something on my bucket list:

Travelling with my husband to Dubai!

My top 3 values:

Respect

Honesty

Punctuality

I have a day totally to myself, with no obligations. Where would you find me?

You would find me watching movies or series on Netflix! Preferably horror, documentary,
Korean, or game themed!

Besides my work, a special skill of mine:

I am a great cook! I first learned how to cook from my mom when I was about seven years old. I
would stand on my little stool as a kid learning about the ingredients and cooking styles. One
thing about my mom is that she never measures anything, and that is one thing that she has
passed onto me! I can eyeball measurements and create many different delicious cuisines!
